Qatari envoy back on the job in Iran
International News
Qatar’s Ambassador Ali Hamad Alsulaiti arrived in Tehran on Friday and began working yesterday morning, ISNA reported yesterday. Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency is reporting that the Qatari ambassador to Iran is back on the job, ignoring the demands of Arab nations who are trying to isolate the energy-rich country. “Ali bin Hamad Al Sulaiti resumed his activities at the Doha embassy in Tehran on Saturday August 26," a source at the Qatari embassy in Iran told ISNA. Qatar pulled its ambassador to Iran in early 2016 in a show of solidarity after attacks on two Saudi Arabian diplomatic posts in Iran following the Saudi execution of a prominent Shia cleric. The Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani held a telephone conversation few days back with Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and means of boosting and developing them as well as a number of issues of common concern. Iran has allowed Qatar's national carrier to use its airspace and sent fresh food supplies to Doha after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties and cut transport and trade ties with Doha and imposed a blockade on Qatar in June. A statement issued on Wednesday Qatar foreign ministry had said that Qatar aimed to bolster relations between the two countries, which share the world's largest natural gas field. "The State of Qatar announced today that its ambassador to Tehran will return to exercise its diplomatic duties," read the statement. Iran has welcomed Qatar’s decision to return its ambassador to Tehran as a positive and logical step. Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that Tehran welcomes Doha decision for returning its ambassador to Iran. As we have always said, Iran’s principled and permanent policy is based on mutual respect, maintaining bilateral interests, and promoting all out relations with every neighboring state,” the spokesman added. Iran is ready to spare no efforts to remove ambiguities and problems through political means among countries in the region, Qasemi said. Courtesy: www.thepeninsulaqatar.com
